GERMS Academy to Kickoff!
GERMS Academy, a three-day training event for all GERMS members to refresh their skills, will kick off tomorrow. GERMS members will have full schedules from 12:15 to 6pm on Thursday, and from 9am to 6pm on both Friday and Saturday.
Each day will involve drills where GERMS members will hone their practical skills, including spinal immobilization, vehicle extrication, cardiac arrest management, sports medicine, shortness-of-breath calls, and soft-tissue injuries. There will be four speakers that will give lectures, including two emergency medicine physicians, a Georgetown NHS professor, and a paramedic who has provided emergency medical care in India, Haiti, and at Hurricane Katrina. In addition, GERMS medical director Dr. Hudson, assistant medical director Dr. Katzer, and Dr. Vieth, all emergency medicine physicians, will be at Academy to run skill drills and put GERMS members to the test with tricky scenarios.
GERMS Academy (otherwise known as GERMS "boot camp") will be sure to keep all GERMS personnel in top-notch EMS shape and ready to respond to any medical emergency this academic year!
